West Vancouver's Helen Crofts was named the Red Lion Track Athlete of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference following a pair of strong performances for Simon Fraser University at the University of Washington Indoor Preview meet held Jan. 12.
Crofts, racing in her first NCAA meet since 2011, finished third in the 800-m race, clocking a time of 2: 10.71.
"It was my first track race in nine months due to an injury," said Crofts in an SFU press release. "I was focusing on being strong and competitive without worrying about times, and it turned out quite well. This was a good indication of where my fitness is at, and I'm looking forward to improving as the season progresses."
Later that same day Crofts led the Clan to a second-place finish in the 4x400-m relay. According to SFU Athletics, the relay team's time of 3: 54.41 was the fifth fastest ever posted by a GNAC team.
The Simon Fraser track and field team is back in Seattle this weekend for the University of Washington Indoor Invitational.
