Golden games! Perhaps we did not "own the podium," but Canada had the lion's share of gold medals (Crosby's game winning gold capped the most gold medals by any country in Olympic history). Putting pedal to the medals, ski cross's Ashleigh McIvor, skeleton's Jon Montgomery, ice dancers Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue and snowboarder Jasey-Jay Anderson added to the gold rush. Our men's and women's hockey team, men's speed skating and curlers followed suit.

In addition to national pride, the gold medal haul means more money for athletes and future Olympians. Asset management mogul and multi-millionaire Eric Sprott celebrated each golden moment with a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Athletes Fund, a not-for-profit organization devoted solely to raising funds and awareness of Canadian athletes.

The fund has raised $10 million since 1997 to back individual competitors with up to $12,000 annually. These golden games will add an additional $1.4 million to the fund's coffers. At the CAN Fund Athletes House, rowing gold medalists Ben Rutledge and Jake Wetzel fronted an Olympic-sized party. The past 17 days have unleashed patriotism never seen before. That's the power of sport.

Way to go Canada!
