MP Saxton promises correspondence review

Dear Editor: I am writing in regards to letters printed in your paper on June 1 and 6 relating the experiences of some constituents when corresponding with my office.

Dear Editor:

I am writing in regards to letters printed in your paper on June 1 and 6 relating the experiences of some constituents when corresponding with my office. I am, of course, very concerned to read about any unsatisfactory experiences in this regard, and I am undertaking a thorough review of the matter.

Firstly, I want to say that I very much appreciate receiving communication from North Vancouver constituents as it gives me a good insight into what's on their minds and what issues are important to them. This information helps me do my job more effectively.

My office receives an enormous amount of correspondence, up to 1,000 pieces a week. Every effort is made to sort and prioritize each item according to subject and urgency. We try and respond to all correspondence that requests it or requires it. Because of the sheer volume of mail and nature of some requests, it is possible that some items may take longer to respond to and in some cases may even be inadvertently misplaced. I apologize to those constituents who are still waiting for a response to their mail. Please be assured that all communication is read and valued.

I am in the process of implementing a new system that is designed to improve correspondence tracking and response times.

I would like to thank my constituents for their patience and to thank all of those who have taken the time and effort to correspond with me.

Andrew Saxton, MP North Vancouver

Editor: Since publishing the June 1 letter, Our Voice in Ottawa Is Deaf, the North Shore News has received three emails expressing satisfaction with responses from Andrew Saxton's office and eight expressing dissatisfaction.
