Dear Editor:

Re: Cyclist Seeing Red Over Green Necklace at Grand Boulevard, July 9 Mailbox.

Further to Robb Douglas’ letter regarding the new pathways on Grand Boulevard I would like to add a few comments.

I am the cyclist he refers to in his letter and for the record, my “interpretation” of the current signage on the boulevard is correct. After being screamed at and called several obscenities by a pedestrian on the same pathway this past Sunday we contacted city hall and spoke with Jonas Moon, the Green Necklace project engineer manager. He confirmed that the two outside pathways are for commuter cyclists and the inner pathway is a shared use pathway to be enjoyed by everyone, cyclists included.

He did say that the city hoped that the path would be used by everyone with respect for their fellow users.

I am a 64-year-old avid cyclist and have lived in both the district and city for 30 years. I have complete respect for the rules and my fellow park users. I don’t appreciate being yelled at and called out in the press for simply enjoying our new taxpayer-funded cycling network. I applaud the recent improvements to our cycling network and will continue to enjoy this wonderful path.
