Dear Editor:

Re: http://www.nsnews.com/community/plants-taken-from-adored-grand-boulevard-traffic-circle-1.23360382.

Since the article appeared in the North Shore News, I’ve had several people out on a walk, stop by while I’m watering the flowers and express their dismay that someone would stoop so low as to steal flowers out of their circle. It’s nice to know from their comments that people care and that they take a personal ownership in seeing a nice show of flowers at the circle.

One that stands out above all the others was a neighbour who after reading the story in the North Shore News went so far as to send me a special card in the mail with a hand-written note inside stating how much they enjoyed the circle. The letter reads:

Dear Dave:

We really appreciate what you do in the neighbourhood! We want to help replace the flowers that were stolen from the circle. Thank you for taking good care of this pretty place.

Signed, Your neighbour in the 400-block East 16th Street.
(They signed their names, their kids’ names and their dog’s name – Frankie.) How sweet is that!

That alone would have been enough, but they also included a $20 bill to purchase more geraniums. This was such a generous offer on their part, which makes it even more special.

This is the kind of great neighbours we have that were unhappy that someone took the geraniums and offered and extended a hand to replace the stolen plants. This kind of unsolicited kindness and generosity is very special and restores my faith in humanity. The very fact they took the time to send me the card and money, I’m going to take them a bottle of summer wine as a thank you.
