LETTER: North Van amalgamation is long overdue

Dear Editor:

In the long run, amalgamation of the two North Vancouvers will pay off.

It may take a while to sort things out but it will balance out so that we all get the benefit of being united. For example, Surrey and Vancouver are far larger than the two North Vancouvers together and they manage quite efficiently having less bureaucracy. One mayor each, one council each. If they can manage, why is North Vancouver footing the bill for two mayors and two councils?

It’s long past time for amalgamation. We already share a school district, recreation commission, policing and transit. We’d still need the same number of district workers, only they’d be under one bureaucracy instead of two. One thing is not debatable, the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver need to sit down to discuss and plan amalgamation without all the current political bluster and baloney.

A municipal election is coming up soon (Oct. 20). Get out and vote for candidates who realize we are one community and not divided, antagonistic neighbours.
