The City of North Vancouver has unveiled its designs for a “whimsical” water feature that will soon occupy a prime plaza at the foot of Lonsdale.

Richardson International donated $400,000 to be spent installing the 3,700-square foot “one-of-a-kind, playful and vibrant gathering place for people of all ages and abilities,” according to the city.

The plaza, which used to be a surface parking lot, is flanked by the new Polygon Gallery and the Tap & Barrel.

The design is meant to welcome interactive play with bubblers and rippling water, and will have large natural boulders for seating. The water can be turned on and off to accommodate other uses.

“We are pleased to support this exciting project and the community of North Vancouver by leaving a lasting legacy that people of all ages can enjoy,” said Phil Hulina, Richardson’s senior director.
