A West Vancouver high-school dance teacher has been reprimanded and asked to pay money back after calling in sick last year on days when she was actually attending a conference with another employer.

Gina Fulla, a dance teacher at West Vancouver Secondary, signed an agreement with B.C.’s Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, acknowledging that in April 2016 she called in sick so she could attend a conference for a company she works for. Fulla also called in sick on two days in September 2016 so she could attend a conference in Texas, as well as on two days in February 2016 when she was attending to personal matters.

In October 2016 the West Vancouver School District disciplined Fulla by suspending her without pay for 14 days. She was also required to pay back the seven days of sick leave.
