It was a rocky landing, literally, for passengers on a commuter water taxi on Bowen Island Thursday evening.

The boat, which left Horseshoe Bay with 39 passengers, ran aground on Hood Point just before 5:30 p.m.

The sudden stop knocked some passengers to the deck resulting in bumps and bruises.

“We had a mayday call. We arrived on scene and accessed the boat. There was one minor injury. Everyone else was fine,” said Jane Maisonville-Phillips, regional development officer for the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue unit from Horseshoe Bay.

The private ferry was still seaworthy and was escorted to its destination on the Sunshine Coast by the Coast Guard hovercraft.

“They managed to get it off the rocks and the people got to Gibsons safe and sound,” Maisonville-Phillips said.
