It may not quite be Rear Window, but a North Vancouver resident with a keen eye for the unusual is being credited for foiling a possible break-in.

The alert citizen – who was apparently up and looking out the window at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning – called RCMP after seeing four people behaving suspiciously in an alley behind her home on St. Georges Avenue.

The citizen sleuth watched the foursome exit a BMW, then appear to take an overly active interest in a neighbouring apartment building.

Police arrived to find that one of the men and one of the women in the alley had outstanding warrants for their arrest and both were breaching court orders, said Corp. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

The BMW the four were observed getting out of had recently been reported stolen from Richmond, said De Jong. The licence plates on the vehicle had also been reported stolen off another vehicle in Burnaby.

All four were arrested for allegedly being in possession of stolen property.

Police regularly encourage residents to call police when they hear or observe something suspicious, said De Jong.
