One of the subjects of a harrowing overnight rescue in the North Shore mountains’ backcountry last weekend is sharing his perspective; literally.

North Shore Rescue volunteers long-lined two people off the ice of the north side of Crown Mountain Feb. 6 after one of them fell and fractured her ankle.

The woman in her 40s and a male companion were training to climb North America’s highest mountain peak, Alaska’s Denali, when she fell. North Shore Rescue reached them by 4 a.m. Crews kept them warm overnight and offered a splint for the broken bones but they had to wait until 7 a.m. for a helicopter rescue team to arrive.

On Friday, the man involved in the rescue posted footage shot from his GoPro camera showing the world what he saw during the night and long-line rescue.

On occasion the volunteer team records some of their rescue operations for training purposes but it’s rare that rescue subjects document their own rescue.
