There wasn't much to the diminutive sedan, but executives knew they had something great on their hands--gas-electric hybrid technologies would be important in the future, and Toyota would get there "before" everyone else. In the twelve years since, the automaker has dominated the segment with a portfolio that currently includes seven unique hybrid cars and SUVs. While green was the major theme at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show attended by columnist David Chao, it was the Lexus LFA, sporting a carbon-fibre body and a 4.8-litre V-10 with 552 h.p., that stole the spotlight.
