The Toyota Prius

Prius an efficiency freak

IT'S hard to believe that a car can actually achieve a 3.7 litre/100 kilometre city fuel economy rating, which is an incredible 81 miles per gallon for those who still prefer to think in non-metric terms.

Kia hopes for strong showing from new Forte

2014 Kia Forte: The Kia sedan depicted here will be called the K3 in its South Korea homeland, and the Cerato everywhere else, except within North America. When it arrives here in mid2013 for the 2014 model year it will be wearing the Forte logo as a replacement for the current design. There's no word as yet regarding powertrain, but considering that Kia is part of Hyundai, it's likely the K3/Forte will use the same 138-horsepower four-cylinder engine installed in the Hyundai Elantra.

Standing out is hard to do in 2012

Released in 1998, the New Beetle brought the fun back to Volkswagen, with a carefree attitude harkening back to the vehicle that inspired it. Standing in stark contrast to the increasingly boring vehicles of the time, the New Beetle was inspired, controversial, and-perhaps most importantly-different, serving as a form of personal expression for middle-class consumers who weren't interested in expensive sports coupes, SUVs, and luxury sedans. The little car appealed to a wide-ranging audience, and even if you didn't care for it personally, you appreciated that it was something different and special.
