The North Vancouver RCMP have confirmed they have opened an investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving teens at a local high school.

Cpl. Richard De Jong said the incident, which allegedly happened off school grounds, is still being investigated and witness statements are still being taken.

De Jong would not confirm whether the alleged assault happened at a grad party for North Vancouver teens.

The investigation is taking place as a trial is currently underway in provincial court for a 17-year-old North Vancouver teen charged with aggravated sexual assault and unlawful confinement of a teenaged girl at an unsanctioned grad party in February 2016. A number of North Vancouver teens have testified at the trial, which has been adjourned until later this summer.
