A suspected impaired driver who fled the scene of a crash Sunday evening might have gotten away with it had he not left a rather distinct calling card – his licence plate.

North Vancouver RCMP received a report of a driver hopping the curb and smashing into a bus shelter and light standard at Mount Seymour Parkway and Mount Seymour Road just after 7:30 p.m. on June 25. By the time police arrived, the driver had fled the scene.

Investigators were able to quickly track down the vehicle’s owner, thanks to his licence plate being left among the debris. Officers found the damaged Infiniti G35 and arrested a 25-year-old North Vancouver man a short distance away. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to police.

“Thanks to the assistance from the public, we were able to locate the vehicle and driver shortly after the collision occurred, said Const. Brett Cunningham, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “Fortunately no one was waiting for a bus at the time of the collision. These situations truly outline the dangers of impaired and dangerous driving.”
