West Vancouver police are recommending a charge of robbery after a man walked into a bank at Park Royal Monday morning and demanded cash.

Shortly after 10 a.m., a man walked into the bank in the 900 block of Main Street at Park Royal Road South and made a verbal demand for cash from the teller, said West Vancouver police spokesman, Const. Jeff Palmer. No weapon was seen or implied during the holdup, said Palmer, and none was found at the scene.

After receiving a quantity of cash, the man ran from the bank and was last seen heading for the mall parkade.

Police got a call about the robbery at 10:15 a.m. but didn’t locate the suspect, said Palmer.

About half a dozen people who were in the bank at the time of the robbery provided witness statements.

Later, police who reviewed video surveillance of the robbery identified a possible suspect.

That person, a 38-year-old man with no fixed address, was subsequently taken into custody in Surrey on an unrelated police file.

Palmer said West Vancouver police are recommending a charge of robbery to Crown counsel.
