West Vancouver police are warning would-be speed demons after a spike in excessive speeding charges.

Officers pulled a number of drivers off the road over the long weekend, including one motorcyclist doing 193 kilometres per hour on Cypress Bowl Road. “If you’re doing 193 km/h, you just have no margin to react to anything,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

Anyone caught driving more than 40 km/h over the speed limit will be hit with a $368 ticket, six penalty points and a new premium from ICBC, and seven days riding the bus while their vehicle is impounded.

Police in West Vancouver have impounded 66 drivers’ vehicles for excessive speed so far this year. One notable case involved a driver doing 150 km/h on the Lions Gate Bridge in moderate traffic.
