For the second time in a week, North Vancouver RCMP have had to respond to a threat made against a local high school.

On Saturday night,  Seycove Secondary administrators sent a message to parents alerting them to a threat against the school community and that police determined it would be safe for classes to resume Monday.

“There was a social media posting that had a direct threat if you will to the school in a way that could be perceived to do harm to somebody,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “We investigated it fully and still are. There is a person of interest that has been identified and spoken to, both by the school and by police.”

Police won’t divulge the details of the threat for fear of stoking copycats.

De Jong praised the parents for quickly reporting the threat, allowing them to respond quickly. A request for charges from the Crown is unlikely, De Jong added.

On June 14, Handsworth Secondary had to be evacuated following a bomb threat. Police swept the school with bomb sniffing dogs, which turned up no actual explosives. De Jong said there are a number of persons of interest and the investigation continues.

In April, Bodwell international school in the Harbourside neighbourhood had to be evacuated after someone called the front desk warning of bombs planted at the school. It too was a hoax. Investigators believe in that case, the call may have come from outside the country, De Jong said.
