A man and his dog had to be rescued from the Seymour River by raft Sunday night after they became stranded near the water’s edge.
The victim had been out for a stroll near Lynn Canyon Park Sunday evening when the failing light left him lost and disoriented. When he realized he had wandered off the path, he headed toward the river to orient himself, according to firefighters. As he reached the riverbank, his dog jumped in. He went after it and ultimately fell into the water himself.
Soaked and shivering, the man yelled for help. A resident of Riverside Drive, on the opposite bank, heard him and called 9-1-1.
Firefighters rushed to the scene, spotted the victim on the far side of the water and sent a member across with dry clothing and a tether. The rescuer set up a line over the river, and another soon followed with a raft, which the team used to ferry the man and his pet to safety.
Paramedics treated the man at the site. He was cold but unhurt, according to firefighters.
