North Vancouver RCMP are looking for a suspect after a smash-and-grab burglary at a Deep Cove area florist.

Police say someone used a rock to smash the glass front door of Willow Florist at Dollarton Plaza just after 5 a.m. Monday. The suspect let himself in and muscled the cash register out the back door.

The suspect was caught on nearby surveillance video. Police describe him as 5-11, with a medium build, beard and short, dark hair; wearing dark jeans, a black shirt and black leather jacket with chest pockets, and dark blue shoes with a white logo. Investigators believe he was driving a white 2015 Honda Civic.

Police collected the register from nearby Raven Woods Drive, at the side of the road. The thief’s reward for his efforts? $20 in coins – a fraction of the cost to repair the door and replace the register.

Smash-and-grabs are somewhat common, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP, so police advise shop owners to leave their tills empty and open to discourage break-ins, or leave a sign making it clear there is no cash on premises.
