Pedestrian struck in Ambleside crosswalk

A 66 year-old West Vancouver woman was sent to hospital for assessment Wednesday afternoon after being struck as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk at Marine Drive and 21st Street around 2:30 p.m.

West Vancouver Police spokesman Const. Jeff Palmer said the driver, an 86-year-old West Vancouver man, was making a left turn from 21st on to Marine Drive and accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

The woman was bumped about four metres and fell to the ground with a bruised knee and elbow.

The driver was issued a $167 ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
