North Vancouver school trustees are getting a pay raise.

The board of education voted Tuesday to give themselves a 2.2 per cent raise for the period July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.

The increase is based on changes to the Vancouver consumer price index and will amount to an increase of approximately $500 per year for each trustee.

The change means most trustees, who currently receive stipends of $23,934 per year, will now receive $24,435. The pay for the vice-chair will be bumped from $24,671 to $25,188 and the stipend for the chair of the board will increase from $25,971 to $26,516.

According to a staff report, the amount paid to the seven North Van school trustees is similar to amounts paid to school trustees in other Lower Mainland school districts, including West Vancouver, Burnaby and Vancouver.

Trustees Cyndi Gerlach, Barry Forward, Franci Stratton and Christie Sacré voted in favour of the increase. Trustee Jessica Stanley abstained and trustees Megan Higgins and Susan Skinner were opposed.
