The District of North Vancouver will receive $175,000 as part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ program to create more green infrastructure projects.

On Tuesday, the federation announced funding for 67 new infrastructure projects across Canada. North and West Vancouver, as well as the Vancouver Fraser Port Authorities are receiving funding to conduct a risk assessment and climate adaption planning process to understand the North Shore’s vulnerability to climate change sea level rise risks.

The project aims to manage or mitigate the North Shore’s risks and “to promote community adaptability and resiliency to coastal flooding impacts,” said Jill Clark, communications strategist at Syntax Strategic.

“The grants are very carefully awarded only to communities (that) are committed to innovation and inspired thinking,” Clark said.

The grants will be funded through, the Municipalities for Climate Innovation, the Municipal Asset Management, and the Green Municipal Fund. The three programs are funded by the government and are delivered by the federation. Their goal is to fund initiatives that give cities the means to create infrastructure that bring the country closer to climate change goals.
