The District of North Vancouver has a new fire chief.

It was announced Wednesday that Brian Hutchinson has been appointed new chief of North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue Services, after holding senior roles with the City of Vancouver and most recently as assistant fire chief and acting deputy chief with the district.

During his time with the district, Hutchinson is noted for his work to improve district fire and rescue training and support programs, as well as the department’s emergency operations plan, states a news release from the district.

He is also the founder of Firefighters Without Borders Canada, an organization that aims to provide training, aid and equipment to firefighting organizations in developing nations.

Hutchinson has replaced former district fire chief Victor Penman, who retired at the end of last year.
