Two North Shore students have received the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award.

Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School student Isaac Heisler and former KGMS student Sarah Sullivan, now in Grade 7 at Upper Lynn elementary, were two of 10 B.C. students presented with the certificate by Free the Children co-founder Craig Kielburger at the We Day Evening of Champions event on Oct. 21.

Created in 1995, the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award "recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smarter and more caring nation. The award also highlights the fine example set by these volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are so much a part of our Canadian character. It allows us to thank them for their contributions and for the positive impact they have had on the lives of others," according to a description on the Governor General of Canada website.

The Caring Canadian Award consists of a certificate and a lapel pin.

Heisler and Sullivan were both nominated for the honour by KGMS.
