IT was a close call this year, but North Vancouver's Canada Day parade is officially back on.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 118 has stepped up to take over organization of the parade, which will go ahead July 1.
The new North Vancouver Canada Day parade committee chair and legion member Ernie Hubbard said after reading about the parade being cancelled in the North Shore News, he immediately called on the legion to take over organization.
"We're taking it over completely from now on," he said. "The people that have been doing it are burned out. I've been on the committee a few years myself and I know what it takes to do it, and it does take a lot of work."
Parade organizers have a handful of volunteers right now, but they do need more now that the parade is back in business. Ideally the club is looking for about 40 volunteers and 80 entrants.
This year marks the 108th North Vancouver Canada Day parade. In recent years the parade drew more than 25,000 spectators. To learn more or sign up, visit legion118.com and click Parade on the sidebar, or email chairparade2013@ legion118.com for more information.
