The six activists had been on the water since around 5 a.m. One protester on each gate wrap-strapped themselves to the gate while the four kayakers blocked the entrance with their boats.
Liam Fox, graduate student at Simon Fraser University, was arrested by officers, who arrived by police boat, around 9 a.m.
“We’re here today to say this pipeline will never be built. Indigenous leaders have called on people across the continent to take action against this tar sands project, and we’re honouring the pledge to protect this inlet, the water, land, and climate,” he said in a press release prior to his arrest. “We will not stop until Kinder Morgan is dead.”
