It is inconceivable that TransLink has the utter gall to propose implementing a toll on the George Massey Tunnel.

South Deltans have been poorly served by this hazardous tunnel for decades.

(It was voted #10 on the list of the 20 most dangerous roads in B.C. in a BCAA survey.)

Not only are we to be subjected to traffic congestion, injury and death in this obsolete relic of the 1950s, but now we could be made to pay for the privilege to do so.

What alternative means does TransLink propose we take to travel to Vancouver? The Canada Line? The Expo Line? The Evergreen Line? The only line we have out here is the one in the centre of the road and it leads directly to our Massey Tunnel.

I mean no disrespect to the brilliant conception of the tunnel in its day, but it has long since served its time.

My wife and I suffered serious injury in a rearend collision in the tunnel which totaled three vehicles April 2011 as a result of poor lighting and congestion.

Would it not be in ICBC's best interest to lobby to have improvements made to our tunnel? Surely the reduction in claims would more than pay for the cost of doing so.

Meanwhile, the unelected and unaccountable bottomless pit we know as TransLink continues to put forth ridiculous proposals and remains focused on central Vancouver issues at the expense of all the surrounding municipalities.

Question: How many overpaid bureaucrats does it take to change a light bulb at TransLink?

Answer: Only one. They just hold the bulb and the Lower Mainland revolves around them.
