A B.C. Ferries crew rescued a man who went overboard from the Queen of Cowichan Tuesday morning in the waters between Passage Island and Bowen Island.

Passengers and crew on the ferry saw the elderly man go overboard at about 9 a.m., 15 minutes after the ferry had left Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, en route to Nanaimo.

The ferry crew launched a rescue boat and managed to pull the man from the water at about 9:30 a.m. The man was in stable condition at that time, said Deborah Marshall, spokeswoman for B.C. Ferries.

The man was transferred about 20 minutes later to the Coast Guard hovercraft Siyay, which took him back to Horseshoe Bay and a waiting ambulance. The man was then taken to hospital.
