Cold temperatures, possible snow in forecast

North Vancouver, West Vancouver could see flurries at higher elevations

The North Shore is in for another dose of winter in the days ahead, with Environment Canada warning Arctic air will bring frigid temperatures and possible snow to North and West Vancouver.

While Friday was a sunny and balmy 8 degrees, by Saturday night the mercury is expected to fall to around freezing, with possible snow showers predicted for higher elevations through Sunday morning.

“A couple of centimetres is not impossible over higher terrain,” said Doug Lundquist, meteorologist for Environment Canada.

By Sunday night, skies are expected to clear, but temperatures head into the deep freeze, with overnight lows of between -6 and -8 degrees expected between Sunday and Wednesday.

That’s about 8 degrees lower than normal for this time of year, said Lundquist.

Lundquist added while temperatures will be cool, the snow flurries followed by clear sunny days spell good conditions for local skiers.

More snow is also a possibility by Wednesday before temperatures warm up again.
