West Vancouver Blue Bus commuters should brace for a full-blown strike on Friday.

District of West Vancouver staff issued the warning late Wednesday morning.

“We encourage Blue Bus users to make alternate travel arrangements for that day,” a statement from the district read.

The union is issuing an apology to West Vancouver riders.

"We regret having to take this step to escalate job action to a level that will very definitely be felt by our valued West Vancouver riders - but West Vancouver council and management continue to demand benefit concessions that block any agreement," said Geoff Devlin, president and business agent of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 134 in a statement.

The union began job action halting overtime work and cancelling some runs earlier in the week, after mediated talks between the municipality and broke down on Friday. Mediator Grant McArthur left the talks because the two sides were too far apart.
