THE West Vancouver Police Department has issued a plea for public information that might help them find a suspect wanted for a shoplifting that escalated into an assault on a security guard in January.

Police say the man was in a grocery store on the 900-block of Main Street in Park Royal Village in the afternoon of Jan. 30 when he was spotted attempting to swipe products from the store.

When the wanted man made a break for it, a loss prevention officer stepped in and tried to stop him.

“The suspect male violently resisted, striking the officer several times and throwing him to the ground,” a press release from WVPD states.

The suspect then fled the area, heading north through the parking lot.

He is described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, approximately six foot three weighing about 240 pounds, with an athletic build and shaved head. He was wearing a ball cap, T-shirt and a black tracksuit at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Phil Greiff at 604-925-7300.
