To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Joe Strummer's passing, this tribute celebrates the iconic and unrivaled legacy of punk rock's most famous act - The Clash. Formed in 1976, this London-based band was emblematic of the disaffected youth of the time who were disenfranchised, anarchic and angry.
Stylistically, The Clash added elements of reggae, rockabilly, ska and rock in their music to broaden their appeal to a wider musical audience than strictly punk. Their third and most successful recording, London Calling, released at the end of 1979, was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as the record of the decade for the 1980s.
Although their history was short-lived, a mere five years, they became known as "the only band that matters" and left a legacy of authentic punk tunes which have been hugely influential and widely covered.
