Blustery weather and high tides conspired to flood West Vancouver’s Seawalk and other exposed seaside areas Monday morning, forcing the municipality to close large portions of its waterfront.

Just before 10 a.m., staff announced that the popular seaside path had been shut down from Ambleside to Dundarave, together with John Lawson Park, Ambleside Park, Dundarave Park, the nearby piers and the Spirit Trail through Ambleside.

The closures were put in place for public safety, they said. The district has put up signs, warning people to stay away from the affected areas. It planned to reopen the waterfront after the flooding has subsided.
