ABOUT 30 volunteers, including members of North Shore Rescue, searched dense underbrush and steep cliffs on Bowen Island Saturday hoping for clues to the disappearance of 17-year-old Jodi Henrickson of Squamish, who was last seen on the island more than a year ago.
Searchers combed an area known locally as "Seven Hills" near Miller Road, where Henrickson was last reported being seen in the early morning hours of June 20, 2009 following a house party.
Cpl. Dave Ritchie of the Squamish RCMP said searchers collected a number of items -- but investigators still have to see if any of them are connected to Henrickson.
In March, police officially deemed Henrickson's disappearance a homicide. Neither the teen or any signs of her have been uncovered since she went missing over a year ago. But Ritchie said investigators are satisfied she was a victim of foul play on the island.
The search is just the latest of several that have been conducted on the island in the year since Henrickson went missing.
Ritchie said investigators are still receiving the occasional tip about the case "but nothing earth-shattering."
He acknowledged the more time that passes, the more difficult it will be to determine what happened to Henrickson. "Evidentiary value is lost over time," he said. "It's very frustrating for a team of investigators."
Police believe they have spoken to everyone who was at the house party on the day Henrickson disappeared. He said investigators still believe "there are people who know something that haven't come forward" or are not co-operating with police.
Henrickson was last seen with her ex-boyfriend, Gavin Arnott, in the early morning hours.
Arnott said the two had a fight around 6:20 a.m. Arnott said Henrickson asked him to go and get his dad's truck but he refused because he was too drunk. He said the two went their separate ways after that.
Since Henrickson's disappearance, more than 4,747 people have joined a Facebook page dedicated to finding the teen, set up by Henrickson's friends and family.
Last month's anniversary of her disappearance prompted many of her friends to write about how much they miss her and their hopes that she will be found.
"I wish someone would tell someone, anyone where you are," wrote Tiffany Hinde. "We will never back down, babe."
Maggie Armstrong, the mother of one of Henrickson's friends wrote on the site about how she had recently given Henrickson's family the signed yearbook she would have had if she had graduated with her classmates at Howe Sound secondary last month.
"Thirteen months, Jodi, we are getting closer to getting you home, after the weekend search for anything that may have belonged to you," she wrote. "I'm sorry it's taking so long but we will find you. . . .Justice will be served. . . ."
