Mystery liquid perplexes RCMP

Leaving mysterious packages at ex-girlfriend’s homes does not endear you to the police.

A man mad at his ex-girlfriend caused police, firefighters, and a specialized toxic chemicals team to spend hours investigating a mystery liquid last week.

At about 2:20 a.m. on Jan. 28, a homeowner in the 22100 block of Old Yale saw a man drive up to the home, and leave a bottle near a tree on the property.

The homeowner became concerned when he went to check on the bottle and detected a chemical odour, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Officers who arrived after the man called police found the bottle was dripping a dark red liquid.

The Township’s firefighters were also called in, and they kept everyone away from the bottle, as they didn’t know what was inside, or whether it was dangerous.

A police Clandestine Lab Team was called in to cap and collect the bottle. The lab teams deal with unknown chemicals and contaminants, and take apart methamphetamine labs.

Samples of the liquid were taken and will be analyzed to determine what was in the bottle. The process is expected to take up to two weeks.

Police did manage to find the person who left the bottle. His ex-girlfriend now lives at that home, and the man was apparently upset, Marks said.

He has been interviewed by police about the contents of the bottle, and it appears the 42-year-old did not mean to harm anyone, Marks said.

However, an investigation is ongoing, at least until police confirm what was in the bottle.

No charges have been laid.
