Langley resident Jackie Maclean will once again lead a group of Good Samaritans into Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, to hand out food this Sunday.

Profiled in the Dec. 27 Langley Advance [Lunch bags delivered to needy] the local businesswoman and hypnotherapist prepares sandwiches and buys water, which she and others then distribute to the needy residing in one of B.C.'s poorest zip codes.

Maclean offered huge thanks to all those who have supported her charity endeavours over the past few months, including volunteers who have donated their time to make the sandwiches and subsequently joined her to deliver them on East Hastings Street.

"Others have helped with monies to purchase supplies," she said. "Thank you!"

This Sunday (Jan. 29), Maclean will lead the volunteers as they prepare sandwiches between 10 a.m. and noon at her Langley home. The group will then head down to East Vancouver for distribution.

So far, Maclean has been purchasing supplies out of her own pocket, to go along with donations she has received.

"Thank you very much to all those who have donated in the past," Maclean said.

The list of items required to be purchased to make this monthly event a reality includes:

. ham, mayonnaise, mustard, jam, peanut butter, and Ziploc bags from Costco;

. water from Superstore; and

. bread.

Maclean will be buying these items on Saturday.

"If anyone wishes to help by purchasing these items, let me know so we can coordinate," Maclean said. "I will give you the money for these purchases."

For this month's charity event, Maclean has raised the bar. She is committed to increasing the number of sandwiches from 400 to 500, to 1,000.

Based on Maclean's calculations, 1,000 sandwiches will mean purchasing 100-plus packages of bread.

"Terra Breads [has been] kind enough to donate bread," Maclean said. "And the situation is that the bread has to be picked up from their four stores in Vancouver."

Maclean said any volunteers willing to pick up the bread and bring it over to her home Saturday would be much appreciated.

"If there are no volunteers to do this, I will purchase the bread locally from Langley," Maclean added.

Anyone interested in volunteering or donating funds can contact Maclean via email at info@thepowerwithin.ca.
