Kevin Bennett, North Vancouver: “Not a broad ban, but just like when you go to the SPCA to get a pet, maybe they should look into the backgrounds of pit bull owners.”

Two pit bull attacks on four-year-old children in British Columbia in a two-week period have prompted calls for the breed to be banned in this province.

The idea has been tabled in the wake of previous vicious attacks, but legislators have never acted. Owners and other advocates have argued that the breed itself isn’t to blame for the problem.

Ontario ignored such objections, however, and implemented a ban seven years ago. Is it time for B.C. to follow suit? Find us on Facebook and Twitter and tell us what you think about a possible pit bull ban.

Valerie Anderson, North Vancouver: “Definitely. I love dogs, but consider how many incidents have taken place, especially with children.”
Nelson Alvarado, Vancouver: “Totally, because they’re very dangerous; even using a leash they’re still very dangerous.”
Alison Dodd, North Vancouver: “I would disagree with that. I grew up with dogs, and think with the proper love and training by the owner, they should be fine dogs.”
Marilyn Turner, North Vancouver: “No, I don’t think there should be a ban on any dog. It’s not the dog; it’s usually circumstances and the owner.”
