The Capilano University community celebrated a $1-million donation from West Vancouver resident and former dean of fine and applied arts Dorothy Jantzen with a reception Sept. 28. The gift will be used to establish the Dorothy Jantzen Artist-in-Residence program, which was also launched at the event.

The program will support the involvement of creative artists in the university's intellectual community. The inaugural artist is cartoonist Lynda Barry who is known for her weekly comic strip Ernie Pook's Comeek.

Following the reception, Barry gave a public artist talk in the North Shore Credit Union Centre for the Performing Arts entitled What It Is, which explored the role images play in day-to-day life.
