The sting of just missing the SeaBus should soon be soothed as TransLink is set to increase sailing frequency starting on Friday.

As of May 19, 15-minute service will start at 6 a.m. on weekdays, 7 a.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. on Sundays and most holidays. It will extend until 9:02 p.m. from Lonsdale Quay and 9:16 p.m. from Waterfront Station.

It means those who just miss the SeaBus during early morning or evening hours will no longer have to wait up to 30 minutes for the next one, being left to contemplate life and the interior decor of the SeaBus terminals.

The increase in service is the first benefit to roll out of Phase 1 of the TransLink Mayors’ Council Vision, approved by the mayors and the province last fall.

In a statement, City of North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto said the change will make public transit a “more viable option for people visiting, living and working on the North Shore.”

“The City of North Vancouver looks forward to further service extensions of the 10-Year Vision to better connect the North Shore with Vancouver and the wider region,” he said.

Phase 1 of the plan will eventually include crossings every 10 minutes, although that isn’t expected until a new SeaBus is constructed over the next two years.
