Normally, the time it takes to walk from someone’s front gate to their front door is the means to an end. That is, until you walk down the bluestone path that wends its way past a babbling brook to a bridge overlooking a 5000-gallon koi pond, towards the 8500-square-foot waterfront oasis architect Brian Hemingway has created. “That's really the story line behind the front yard, the experience of arrival,” explains Hemingway. A wall of crenelated glass reflects the water from the pond inside and breathes life into the house.

The stunning residence comes alive in the springtime with 2000 square feet of seamless outdoor living, which is heated and under glass, overlooking a private dock. The unobstructed views of Indian Arm stretch to the saltwater hot tub, which includes a massive waterfall. “It's not filling into the hot tub, but behind the tub,” the world-renowned architect explains, “so it feels like you’re sitting under a waterfall.”
