These days it seems we are inundated with emails and text messages on a regular basis. The cyber world has taken over our correspondence to our friends and family as well the workplace.
I have always appreciated the handwritten card. Unlike an email, a card sits on your counter during the holiday season and reminds you of your family and friends.
If you really want to make an impression this year, why not try making this very easy honeycomb fold out card.
Honeycomb paper can usually be found in craft stores or you can order
it online.
Materials
• One sheet of green honeycomb paper
• One package of plain, white greeting cards
• Sharp scissors
• Pencil
• Glue
Measure the length of the inside crease of your greeting card.
Trace out a pattern of a “half” tree along the fold left hand side of the honeycomb paper.
Make sure you determine how the paper folds out so that the honeycombs are visible.
Once you have traced out the half tree use your scissors to carefully cut out the tree.
I have found in the past that manicure scissors work really well here for small, intricate patterns.
Open the greeting card and glue the one-half side of the tree to the crease of the card.
Once the glue has adhered, attach the other half of the tree to the other side of the card.
The tree should now fold out as you open the card.
Write your message on either side of the tree.
There are many other options for this honeycomb card as well.
Cutting out round balls in different colours will make beautiful holiday ornaments that open up inside the card.
Simply cut half-ball shapes from the various coloured honeycomb papers and glue them to the inside centre of the fold out card in a similar fashion to the tree directions.
A series of three different size white ball honeycombs make the cutest snowmen as well.
