Shut out the harmful rays of the sun with one of these.

Ms. Tilley, I presume. The LTM3 AIRFLO hat by Tilley, $72, UPF 50+ is available at www.tilley.com. This ubiquitous Canadian-made hat is not cheap, but comes with a lifetime guarantee and will be replaced, at half the cost, if it is lost, stolen or chewed by your dog.

Gardening anyone? This hemp hat may well be the ideal protection, offering a UPF factor of 40-50+. It is $46.99. Made by Toronto's Puffin Gear, www.puffingear.com, it is lined with solarweave, a cotton material that blocks almost all UVA and UVB rays.
Summer sizzler, $39.95. This elegant performer is actually made of tightly woven, very strong paper products by a promising young Ontario company, Lizzy By Design. The material meets CDA guidelines, while the curvy brim ensures a definite mystery factor on your next outing.
Shady performer, $24. With a floppy six-inch brim, this chic straw hat might seem dermatologically approved, but the weave might not be quite tight enough to pass the stringent CDA test.
Hey cowgirl, $69. The Scala Hat Company, owned by Dorfman Pacific and the creative force behind the Indiana Jones hat, has a range of sun hats with UPF 50+ ratings. Sadly, this rakish straw number is not one of them. It is, however, tightly woven and has a three-inch brim.
