Dear Editor:

I think it a marvel that city council endorsed countless hours and many hundreds of taxpayers' dollars gathering citizen input via surveys and public meetings during the lengthy OCP process, only to ignore the clear wishes of the entire city and the recommendations of its own staff, and to shoot down the proposed plan at Monday's council meeting on July 7, arbitrarily stating what the OCP will look like.

Can we trust the democratic process after such a debacle; can we trust our tax dollars in the hands of elected officials who say they are listening to our wishes and then totally disregard them?

Fortunately, there was a minority on council who were listening to its citizens and we can only make sure in the next election that they become a much stronger voice.
