New weight loss program launching

Weight control isn't about calories, carbs, grams of fat or glycemic index, according to a new weight loss course being offered through Capilano University's Continuing Education program.

Why Weight? doesn't offer a diet or exercise regime, it's designed to help participants get to know their own unique body's needs to create a new mindset for permanent weight loss. The goal is for participants to learn that if they're overweight, their problem isn't food, it's what's going on inside them, both physically and emotionally, organizers of the program say.

Over the six two-hour classes, instructor Carol Crenna, a certified nutritionist and editor of national health magazine Vista, uses props, one-on-one advice, participation, handouts, in-depth written exercises, and a trip to a grocery store to teach participants how to reach their ideal weight. She also incorporates a lifestyle assessment and personal consultation.

Classes run Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., from Sept. 29 to Nov. 3. Those who missed last night's class can still join, with a makeup class being offered. Cost: $169.

To register for the course, call Capilano University at 604- 984-4901 or visit www.capilanou.ca/ce.
