Move for Health Day is celebrated annually in May and this year, thousands of British Columbians took part, including those on the North Shore.

According to a written statement from the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association, Move for Health Day has been held on May 10 since 2002 when it was launched by the World Health Organization. From a public walk at Harry Jerome to complimentary fitness classes at West Vancouver and Gleneagles community centres, local residents had lots of participation options to choose from.

To honour those who lead and encourage others to lead active lives throughout the year, consider nominating an individual, organization or company for the annual Healthy Community Hero Award. Nominees must support at least one of the pillars of Active North Shore, which include active living, healthy eating and living smoke-free. Nominations close April 1, 2012.
