INFLUENZA outbreaks are up slightly in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, but this year's flu strain has been virulent enough to be declared a health hazard by the Fraser Health Authority.

The number of people who have been hospitalized due to influenza is up 400 per cent this year. The number of deaths associated with flu is also up by an alarming rate.
