WEST Vancouver constables Glenn Marshall and Griffin Gillan and Const. Corey Abendroth, of North Vancouver RCMP, joined colleagues from across the Lower Mainland in a 900-kilometre bike ride this week as part of the annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast.
Cops for Cancer is an annual bike ride featuring law enforcement and emergency services personnel. Donations raised from the event go to pediatric cancer research and support programs for kids with cancer.
The Tour de Coast cycling trek weaves through the North Shore, the Sea-to-Sky corridor and other communities in Greater Vancouver Sept. 19-27. On Monday, the public was invited to meet some of the participants and their support teams as they arrived at the West Vancouver Police Department. Visitors were encouraged to applaud the riders and cheer them on to their goal to raise $6,000 each.
Later in the day the riders stopped at North Vancouver Civic Plaza for lunch. During the break, they participated in a yoga session. Heather McEwen of Y Yoga led the riders through some basic yoga moves.
The Cops for Cancer tour has raised a combined total of more than $27 million in the past 15 years. For more information about the initiative or to donate, visit the website at copsforcancerbc.ca.
