AS we head into the last long weekend of the summer, representatives of Canadian Blood Services are issuing a call for more donors - 1,200 across the country and 220 in B.C. - to help meet the needs of hospital patients.
According to a written statement, every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood. Most often, it takes more than one donor to save a hospital patient's life.
A single car accident victim may require 50 units of blood and blood products to survive injuries.
That's why this long weekend, communities, groups and families across the country are encouraged to rally together to make a donation. There are plenty of opportunities to donate blood this long weekend.
It takes approximately an hour and appointments are recommended to help reduce clinic wait times.
In addition, regular mobile blood donation clinics are scheduled on the North Shore at North Lonsdale United Church, located at 3380 Lonsdale Ave., in North Vancouver.
Upcoming clinics, taking place every second Wednesday, include Sept. 5, 19, Oct. 3, 17, 31, Nov. 14 and 28, from 1 to 8 p.m. Clinics are also held every fourth Saturday, with clinics scheduled for Sept. 15, Oct. 13 and Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
