Track of the day: “Hands High” by Ndidi Onukwulu

Ndidi O performing at Shadbolt Centre on Friday, Feb. 9

Track of the day: “Hands High” from Ndidi Onukwulu’s upcoming album, These Days.

You name it and Ndidi O can do it. In a night full of highlights her star turns during Steve Dawson’s tribute to the Stones, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!, at Kay Meek Centre, back in 2015, were nothing less than jaw-dropping performance theatre.

She performs tracks from her upcoming new album, These Days, in the Studio Theatre at Burnaby’s Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (6450 Deer Lake Ave.) on Friday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m.

Ndidi O recorded the new material in Vancouver and Los Angeles with producer Mischa Chillak, working with writers such as Jimmy Harry and The Fast Romantics’ Matthew Angus.

The first single ,“‘Hands High,’ is an ode to humanity,” says Ndidi. “We live in such precarious, ugly times and this song was my response. It has been a reoccurring theme of mine, to explore the idea of togetherness. I truly believe that as a species if we start working together for the betterment of all of us, we will evolve and become the love filled humans we were meant to be. So this song is about that, it’s about encouraging us to get together and to become strong and create the change we so desperately need.”

The new album will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services on Friday, March 16. For more information visit ndidio.ca.
